A little bit about us…

Welcome to the COG (Community Outreach Group) Aberdeen.

We are a newly formed group of volunteers, many of us having been closely affiliated with Street Friends over the last two years working with the vulnerable folk across the inner city streets.

Our intention is to provide a Street Café setting with tables and chairs, where homeless as well as isolated and vulnerable people can still get a meal but where conversation and interaction will take place – a chat, maybe advice but especially support over a game of cards or chess even! But conversation and friendship will be more evident.

Our warm, friendly and approachable volunteers (known as Couthie Connectors!) will be on hand, helping connect those in need with local service providers; assisting, supporting and guiding in all manner of ways, be it a passport application, housing issue, dental issue or even rehabilitation options. Our familiar drinks trolleys providing all the typical offerings will still make regular passes up and down the main streets throughout the city centre.

Nutritious tasty soups and sandwiches will be on offer, all kindly donated by McGintys, Cognito, Pret A Manger and Greggs. COG is currently building a trusted local support network committed to providing dedicated, wrap around support – a person to person centred interaction, where dignity and respect are ensured – whilst promoting positive lifestyle changes.

Our volunteers are the bedrock of our organisation, with systems and processes in place to ensure each and everyone is treated in exactly the same way.

Volunteers will be provided with the right tools and training to ensure they are valued and that they are making a difference but most importantly, enjoy coming to volunteer with COG.
